The Old Starlite Lounge is Haunted

The Starlite Lounge, a bar in belltown closed this year. 1921 First Ave is where the Starlite Lounge resided and every few years new businesses would open and close constantly. The Starlite Lounge building use to serve as a mortuary in the 1900's and a few years ago, a shaman sensed 19 spirits living in the building. The Shaman said, "I see 19 faces looking down at us right now," to the old owner of Fire & Ice (the bar that was there before Starlite).

Holiday Inn's New Logo

Almost everyone knows what the Holiday Inn Hotel's logo looks like. You've seen them driving on the freeway, you've visited them on vacation or you even have them in your own home town. Well, they have a new and improved logo. Which one do you like better, the old or the new one?

The new one almost looks like a toilet paper logo, but it also catches your eye. The soft lines in the 'H' feel like a comfy white bed with an elegant flare. They could have used a better front for the 'Holiday Inn' below the H, it's too boring.

Seattle's Haunted Houses

Who doesn't love a great haunted house? A safe place to have fun and get your adrenalin running by getting scared.

The Seattle Metroblog is one of my favorite blogs to read and they had a really great post today about Haunted Houses in Seattle.

Here is the list:
Nightmare at Beaver Lake is a chilling walk through the woods in Sammamish.I know there must be others out there--if you know of one I've missed, please post it in the comments.

Seattle Haunts puts on what are hand-down two of the most scary Haunted Houses ever: The KUBE haunted house and the multi-sponsored "House of Terror".

Wild Waves in Federal Way offers Fright Nights through Halloween.

Stanwood's Haunted House is too scary for toddlers but safe for everyone else and the money raised goes to support Stanwood senior services.

The Everett Haunted Forest is another family-friendly haunted house that raises funds for community efforts.

Theatrical Nightmare is a very spooky house at Ft. Lewis

Stocker Farms' Corn Maze is in Snohomish and is very, very creepy.

Maris Farms's forest in Buckley is lovely and inviting during the day, scary as all get out at night.

Is Shawn Johnson the next Mary Lou Retton?

Will Shawn Johnson , 15 year old gymnast from Des Moines, Iowa become the next Mary Lou Retton, Nadia Comaneci or Kim Zmeskal?

She is currently training for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. She's in the line up to go to the 2008 Olympics, but you never know with Gymnastics if she will make it or not.

Kokanee as a Lady Bug

Look at my dog Kokanee in her Halloween costume. She let me put it on her once, but she wouldn't let me again. We'll see if I can get it on her again for Halloween :)

My Cousin Matt Edgers in Snowboarder Mag

My cousin Matt Edgers is a huge snowboarder. He made it in the Snowboarder Magazine November 2007 issue on page 115. He's doing a sick trick, go buy it at the store.

He also had a pic in Transworld Snowboarding. Here's another one from Mt Baker:

My mom just sent me this pic of Matt doing the famous Mt Baker highway jump! (3/3/08)

Twelve By Twelve

Twelve By Twelve is Forever 21's new high end collection. For those of us that are business women over 22, we can rarely find anything work appropriate at Forever 21. Twelve by Twelve actually has some clothes that I can pick and choose from and are still affordable. Here are some of my favorites so far:

Coug Flag always on ESPN Gameday

All I gotta say is 'Go Cougs'! ESPN Gamedays travels around the country to host the show at a different location every week. The WSU-Cougar flag keeps appearing behind the host in the background. Ol' Crimson Booster Club is a non profit organization that has so much cougar pride that they follow the show to each city and they are going to follow them until they come to Pullman.

Scout.com posted a great article: http://washingtonstate.scout.com/2/196503.html

STREB Show

Wes and I are in Yakima this weekend and went to a show at the Capitol Theater with my parents. They have season tickets to the theater shows, so we got to sit in the 2nd row, pretty awesome. We saw STREB, a Brooklyn based dance company that explores gravity, gymnastics, risk taking tricks, with the poetry and split-second timing of dance.

The show was very short, wasn't as exciting as I thought. I would give it a 5 out of 10. I wouldn't see the show again, but I would definitely take some of the classes. Take a look: http://www.strebusa.org/pages/classes_adult.html#descriptions. Since I can already do flips, this would be perfect for me...... if only they had it in Seattle.

What direction is girl turning?

Is this girl turning clockwise or counter-clockwise? Answer this before scroll down.

If she's not moving fast, check out the website to answer this question: http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,22556281-661,00.html

If clockwise, then you use more of the right side of the brain and vice versa. Most of us would see the dancer turning anti-clockwise though you can try to focus and change the direction; see if you can do it.

LEFT BRAIN FUNCTIONS uses logic, detail oriented, facts rule, words and language, present and past, math and science, can comprehend, knowing, acknowledges, order/pattern perception knows object name, reality based, forms strategies, practical and safe.

RIGHT BRAIN FUNCTIONS uses feeling, "big picture" oriented, imagination rules, symbols and images, present and future, philosophy & religion, can "get it" (i.e. meaning), believes, appreciates, spatial perception, knows object function, fantasy based, presents possibilities, impetuous, risk taking

*All I can see is right/clockwise, but Wes saw both.

Two Headed Turtle In Pennsylvania

Swing Dancing at Century Ballroom

Wes and I have been taking Swing dancing classes Sunday night up on Capitol Hill at the Century Ballroom . This building not only holds the Century Ballroom, but also Velocity Dance Center and Freehold Theater. Apparently the building was just sold and no one knows what they new owners are going to do with it. Will they leave the building up, or will they tear it down to make more condo's?

Montgomery Wards is still around?

I was reading the Internet Retailer and they posted an article about Wards.com adding more than 50,000 products for the holiday shopping season. I had no clue that this store still existed. There was a Wards in Yakima, but was torn down when I was about 15 years old and I haven't heard about them since.

Check out their site: http://www.wards.com/wards/default.asp

Half of all web users will shop online this holiday season...

"More than half, or 50.7%, of Internet users will do at least some of their holiday shopping online this year, up from 37.6% last year, Burst Media says in a new report. "

Brady, WA Chapman Pumpkin Patch

Last year Wes and I went to the Chapman pumpkin patch/corn maze in Brady, WA and it was so much fun that we had to go again this year. Last year it was raining, but not that bad, so we went through the corn maze and spent some time walking through the pumpkin patch picking out the perfect pumpkin. This year it was pouring down rain, so we were there only about 30 minutes. I had to search around for the biggest/best pumpkin. Mine was 54 lbs and Wes's was 42 lbs!!

Pumpkin patch kids have a field day at Brady , article from The Daily World.

Chapman Maze and Pumpkin Patch 239 Brady Loop Rd., Montesano. 9am to dusk. Cost is $3 for the corn maze. 360-249-3317.
