Wes and I went for a walk today around his neighborhood and walked by this cool looking historic building. It looked like an old church that was under construction.
After doing some research I found out that this was the 81 year old Seventh Church of Christ, Scientist. They have been trying to sell the church for the past 20 years, due to its dwindling congregation and deteriorating church. They almost sold it to a man that was going to demolish the historic building and probably build town homes or condos.
Neighbors protested tearing down the building and won. Soon after they The Seattle Church of Christ bought the church for $1.56 billion dollars. The 270 members of this church will start attending services there once the construction is completed.
The Seattle Church of Christ is holding an auction to raise money called "Another 100 Years" on May 31, 2008 at 6pm. It costs $60 dollars, but you'll get Chicken Skewers, Canapes, Empanadillas, desserts, red & white wine, & more. There are tons of awesome items that are going to be auctioned off. Anything from a Holland America 7 Day Cruise to 2 Passes to Silverwood Theme Park to a River Rafting Trip for Two from Orion Expeditions. Take a look at all the other items to be auctioned off; here.
Here are pictures of what the old church use to look like.
