Miss America 2008 Kirsten Haglund's Evening Gown

Did you see Miss America 2008 Kirsten Haglund's evening gown? It was a see through dress with jewels in areas you were not allowed to see. Was it just me or did it trigger bad memories of Britney Spears in a similar outfit a year or two ago?

Compare these two outfits:

Kirsten Haglund - Miss America 2008

VS.
Britney Spears Toxic:
NOTE: For those of you who commented and were upset about this post. I also think the Miss American Organization is great and it helps women build their self confidence. I just feel that her dress was a bit inappropriate for this type of pageant.

She looked beautiful and her evening gown was not inappropriate....it was different!

Similar, but it's the subtlety that makes all the difference between class and trash.

No need to trash Kirsten Haglund.
I believe that she will make a great Miss America...I think she is beautiful, poised, smart, and nice. I support her 100%.

I agree with the anonymous comment above. I am also personally involved with the Miss America organization. I love this organization. It is such an amazing oprotunity to join these pageants and to win scholarships. No other program in the world gives more scholarship money to women. I think that before you put something down...you should look at the big picture. =]

I think that this woman has a beautiful body and she should feel free to showcase such by wearing this amazing dress. This is 2008! It's too bad that you cannot see the true art that appears in this dress. And by the way, Britney's body looks incredible covered in those swarovskis. How about yours?

I agree with the 2 anonymous comments above. Kirsten Haglund is ahmazing, and a close friend to me. I love her so much. Kirsten was brought up in a family with strong christian beliefs. I completely disagree with what you are saying here. I am also involved with the Miss America organazation, and what an honnor it is to be apart of. It's truely amazing the amount of money it gives to teens and women nationwide. I beleive that Kirsten looked great on the Miss America stage. I also think that she couldn't have won this pageant if the judges didnt believe she had earned it.

I do think she could have picked something that covered more. She could pick something that flatters her without showing that much skin. But she is very, very beautiful.

The other girls dresses that showed gratuitous amounts of cleavage were MUCH more risqué.

actually, if you find a close up picture, her dress was not see through so as it was not innappropriate. it was made to look see through, but actually was brown material the colour of skin with jewels placed in the places incase the brown material became wet or was see through, you could see no undergarments

she went to the same high school as i did, and i actually saw her a few times. anyway, you just have to trust me on this, she is not going to become the next brittny spears

Judging from their misspelling and poor grammar, it's obvious that the posters who claim to "be involved with the Miss America Pageant" were not recipients of any scholarships.

In any case, the dress, while not particularly inappropriate, is certaintly one of the tackier ones that has been worn in these pageants.

This is a lovely, glamorous, if not somewhat conservative gown (given today's fashion trends). This is not the 1950s. The Miss World contestants wear gowns a great deal more revealing than this, as did Nancy Reagan back in the 80s (known for her high fashion black gown which was completely sheer, worn sans bra as it was intended). People in the USA (most especially those from more conservative parts of it) seems to have the idea that the female body is somehow wrong, and should be covered up at all times (not quite to the level of the burka, but the sentiment is the same one). Where I live nobody has negative thoughts at the sight of a woman in a sheer gown, or for that matter going topless at the beach (all our beaches here are topless, many are nude). I do wish that USA would stop embracing ideas that are either adolescent or repressive.

This dress was incredible. Unfortunately, that was the only thing incredible about Kirsten on the night of the pageant. After having their own reality series and claiming to 'change things for the better' - at the end of the day, the judges still picked a kid who screeched out 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' badly, and in an ugly, stuck-in-the-80's prom dress with a train no less. Bless her heart though. I'm sure she's a sweet girl, but let's face it - she's not Miss America material. Not on any day of the week. Maybe this is why the ratings have taken a nose dive and the pageant isn't even televised on a major network anymore. The public is just generally disappointed in the outcome. On the bright side, at least her educational pursuits will be covered, which is supposed to be the point of the MAO in the first place.

EW!!!!!! HAS EVERYONE GONE MAD??!! THE DRESS IS HEDIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO NOT APPROPRIATE FOR A PAGEANT, ESPECIALLY MISS AMERICA, AND NONE OF YOU MISS AMERICA WORKERS SHOULD GET OFFENDED, YOUR WORK HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS HEDIUS DRESS, BRITNEY ON THE OTHER HAND I HAVE TO SAY LOOKS SMOKING HOT!!!!!!!!!!! BUT THEN AGAIN THAT IS THE ONLY TIME YOU CAN WEAR THIS: IN A MUSIC VIDEO

Agree with the poster entirely. The fact that she's a good looking girl is irrelevant -- the point is that a dress that is mostly see-through with the exception of some strategically-placed sequins is slutty. Period. Not appropriate.
